I am a Senior Laboratory Technologist at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ghana and a researcher with expertise in pharmacology, toxicology, and medicinal plant research. My work focuses on snakebite envenoming, antivenom development, venom profiling, and the discovery of bioactive compounds from Ghanaian medicinal plants. I'm an independent snakebite researcher from rural India. I have been working as a snakebite epidemiology researcher in India for 5 years. I have been in fieldwork ( in villages) for 5 years, so I know how to work with local healthcare, local traditional healers, village heads and I have good Experience in, collaborating with district administration also. We have developed the concept for a project titled "Snake Detection Using Acoustic and Vibration Sensors." The proposed solution is an early-warning, field-deployable IoT sensor node designed to detect the presence of snakes before human contact occurs, helping to reduce the risk of snakebites. The system combines MEMS microphones, MEMS accelerometers, and geophones to capture airborne acoustic signals and ground-borne vibrations generated by snake movement. These sensor inputs are intended to be processed using machine learning techniques to identify snake activity and provide timely alerts to people in snake-prone environments such as farms, forests, and rural communities. In parallel, we have also explored the use of Quantum Machine Learning for snake identification by evaluating whether a Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) can outperform a classical Support Vector Machine (SVM) in classifying snake images. This work is part of our effort to investigate advanced AI approaches for improving snake detection and identification.

I completed a doctoral degree in Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. In addition to receiving the Ford Foundation Alumni Award grant, I was also awarded an International Collaboration Research grant. I has extensive experience in conducting implementation research. Most of my approaches are grounded in cultural understanding, local traditions, and participatory models.

I have completed a postdoctoral fellowship in viral diseases at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where I currently work as a quality auditor. It has come to my attention from my Medical Collegiate Organization that there is a prize that could help my country address a long ignored medical necessity particularly in our rural areas. I can provide medical care in rural clinics in Honduras to pilot our idea.

It helps healthcare professionals quickly confirm whether a snakebite has resulted in envenomation, enabling timely and appropriate medical treatment. The test is easy to perform and can be used in primary health centres, community health centres, district hospitals, emergency departments, and rural healthcare facilities.

Dr. Abdulhamid Saidu is a public health physician with over eight years of experience strengthening primary healthcare and delivering community-based interventions in rural Nigeria. His work focuses on reaching underserved populations affected by neglected tropical diseases, including snakebite envenoming. Currently serves as a Resident Doctor and Lecturer in Yobe State University, Northeastern Nigeria, conducting community health assessments, disease surveillance, and outbreak response.
