I am a Professor of Risk Management and Founder of the Avoidable Deaths Network and Avoidable Deaths Lab at the University of Leicester, UK. My research focuses on reducing avoidable disaster deaths through novel theories, interventions, lifesaving RH kits, networking, public engagement, and advocacy. Since 2023, I have been experimenting with a place-based & issue-based 'Case Station for Avoidable Snakebite Deaths' in Odisha/India, to prevent snakebite deaths during natural hazard disasters.

Trained in Structural Virology at Institut Pasteur, Paris, he worked at Novartis, Vertex and Takeda, contributing to the development of vaccines, viral vectors, gene therapies, and advanced analytical platforms. His expertise includes infectious diseases, synthetic biology, antibody discovery and analytical development.

I am a clinician researcher with 25 years experience with snakebite in Australia and Sri Lanka. I have conducted over 10 RCTs, lead and co-lead the two largest snakebite cohorts in the world. I have been supported for 20y by NHMRC funding and have over 500 peer reviewed publications. I supervise and collaborate on ground-breaking research in Sri Lanka, including snakebite prevention.

Dr Syafiq Asnawi is a snakebite and venomics researcher based at Monash University Malaysia, with expertise in venom proteomics, antivenom evaluation, mass spectrometry, and translational biomarker discovery. His work focuses on understanding medically important snake venoms in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, including toxin profiling, antivenom cross-reactivity, and the development of broader antivenom strategies. He currently leads the Monash University Malaysia Proteomics and Metabolomics Platform.
