My research background is in recombinant antibody generation through phage display technology and the construction of naive and immunised antibody libraries. I also focus on the translation of recombinant mAbs into therapeutic and diagnostic assets. My research group has developed a rapid test to confirm snakebite envenomation in victims in India and is currently undergoing 'field testing'.

Gashaw Gebrewold is a public health researcher in neglected tropical diseases at Ethiopian Public Health Institute, most commonly in venomous snake species distribution, snakebite envenomation and antivenom use in Ethiopia. BSV Anti-Snake Venom (ASVS), manufactured by Bharat Serums and Vaccines (BSV), India is a life-saving polyvalent antiserum used to treat envenomation from the "Big Four" venomous snakes: Cobra, Krait, Russell's Viper, and Saw-scaled Viper. BSV has not only developed the ASV, but is also at the forefront of raising awareness on the dangers of untreated snakebites and the need for right and timely treatment. The biologicals, clinical and commercial teams work together to deliver the outcomes.
