ASF is a US-based nonprofit fighting snakebite envenoming through clinical education, research, and collaborative public health initiatives. We currently partner with local organizations across West Africa to deliver sustainable emergency snakebite care in rural, high-burden communities. Our multidisciplinary team brings first-hand field experience to solve the barriers between bite and effective treatment.

I am a medical doctor/ professor in Public Health at Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. I have been studying the epidemiology and the burden of snakebite since 2001. Our team has estimated the global burden of snakebite in 2008 resulting in a highly cited paper in PLoS Medicine, which has helped to highlight the importance of snakebite as a global public health problem. Presently we are reviewing our previous estimates using recent literature and a robust methodology.
